Making The Mundane Miraculous XI, Seven Ways To Stop The Devil

September 1, 1996

43:67

SUMMARY

This message warns that the devil acts as a personal adversary who uses tactics like distraction, doubt, and fear to devour the faith of believers. To resist the evil one effectively, Dr. Passavant outlines seven practical postures, including repentance to close spiritual doorways and using the authority of the Word of God. Victory is secured by standing behind the legal triumph of the cross, pleading the blood of Jesus, and boldly declaring His powerful name.

I don't know about you, but when I went to church, the only time I heard a song like that is when I got in the car afterwards to get home. So if that was pain for you, well, we'll keep working on it. 1 Peter 5, this is the 11th message in a series, and by the way, I know from time to time we start things around here and don't finish them, but I wanna say, praise God, we finished this one. And if you didn't get all the tapes on this series, they're available in the tape ministry, which of course is out in the south hallway there. 1 Peter 5, verse six, humble yourselves therefore under God's mighty hand that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be self-controlled and alert, your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him standing firm in the faith because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast. To him be the power forever and ever. Professor Charles Kraft visited North Way about three years ago, writes in his book, Defeating Dark Angels, this story. I've been working with a young woman I'll call Jennifer. She's been an active, committed Christian for several years, but had heard voices in her head for as long as she could remember. These voices specialized in putting her down and contradicting any pleasant or positive thought about life and herself. They regularly tried to dissuade her from worshiping, scripture reading, witnessing, or seeking help. They steadfastly and strongly criticized her to keep her self-concept low, attempting to convince her she could not do many ordinary things. We found out from the demons behind Jennifer's voices that they had entered her before she made a commitment to Christ and that they had tried hard to keep her from becoming a believer. Failing that, their task became to keep her from experiencing all that Jesus could offer her. They admitted they had lost her spirit and that Jesus now lived there. They didn't like that one bit, but were doing their best to diminish her life. One evening as we ministered to Jennifer in the power of Jesus, we challenged the demons behind the voices and cast them out. She no longer hears the voices and can now enjoy worship and preaching in a totally new way. Most other things in her life are also brand new as well, and Jennifer ministers regularly to others to bring them the freedom she now experiences in the Lord. Have you ever even considered the possibility that the reason why you're bored in church is because an oppressing spirit from the evil one has been sent just to plant distraction and doubt and fear? Ever even thought about that? Peter writes in his verses and he says, your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. All of our lives we have two major obstacles on our path to spiritual growth. Number one is sin. Now we all know what sin is. It's that innate inclination toward wanting it my way. It's just simple selfishness. The other obstacle that we face is Satan. The adversary, the personal being who personifies evil, the one who opposed God and rebelled against him and brought with him a third of the angels in the heavenly places when he was cast out of God's presence. Now we understand sin, and there's a lot more to it theologically, of course, but basically it's just that drive to have it my way, with or without another, with or without God. But Satan, the devil, well, we have some other hangups when it comes to talking about the devil. I mean, there's been some extremism and there's been some folklore and misrepresentation. I mean, it's not the devil who causes you to have a flat tire every time or have to wait an extra minute at a traffic light. It's not the devil who maybe nicked your face when you were shaving today and all those crazy things that we hear about the devil doing. But in the first century to whom Peter was writing these words, there was no doubt that the devil was alive and at work because these believers were scattered throughout an area where they had no place to call their own. And the devil was bringing great torment into their life. Many of them were being thrown into prison and persecuted as we read in chapter four. And thousands were being martyred at the whim of Roman officials who having once destroyed the Jews from whom the Messiah came, they went after the Christians. And I've been in places where huge coliseums where Christians were brought in and lions turned loose on them, slaughtering them in front of cheering crowds simply for their faith. That's an incredible prospect, something I trust that maybe you're grateful you'll never have to face or possibly have ever contemplated facing. When Peter describes Satan, you see in these verses, as prowling around like a rowing lion, he's not just using a word picture. It's exactly what was happening to these people. They were giving up their life, their lives for Jesus Christ. Now we live in an entirely different culture. We're not persecuted really much in America for our faith. Sometimes we're prosecuted for it and we get opposed from time to time. But there are clear evidences from where I stand, dear ones, that many of us are facing things in our lives that are much more than just simply circumstantial. Many people have told me in recent weeks, just this sense of having to fight something to get through to where you wanna be in your walk with God, setbacks and failures in your personal life, family conflicts that are pulling you down, darts of discouragement and doubt and despair, many in physical adversity and pain and struggle. Someone's gotta be thinking, well, Jay, how do you know that's the devil and just not life? I mean, doesn't life have all of those ingredients to it? And my answer is, of course it does. Just being in this fallen world means that we're gonna face stuff like that. But I also can tell you most assuredly that the devil has access to those things in his arsenal and he's able to pull out some darts and just fire the right thing right into your life to build upon the pain, the difficulty, the suffering, to try to bring you out of your faith. Interestingly, I was reading in Revelation this week, Revelation 2, verse 10, Jesus Christ says this, I'll just quote it for you. "'The devil will put some of you in prison to test you.'" Now, how is the devil gonna do that? He's gonna drive up to your condo in his paddy wagon? What does Jesus mean there? He simply means that the enemy can even cause authorities to work against you if he so desires. Do you understand what I'm getting at here? Friends, we need, it's wisdom to us to discern the difference between what is the devil and what is just life. And unfortunately, many Christians may believe there's a devil, but they don't understand how he works. David Watson, a wonderful godly man that I had known from 4th century, said this, "'Even amongst Christians who do believe "'in the devil's existence, there is often a marked blindness "'about the reality of spiritual warfare "'and the nature of the enemy's tactics.'" And I have to say, that is true. Let alone, you know, some of us, we have adversity and problems. Others of us are really, you know, we're cruising along. Life's good. I've got, you know, the family I want, and the house I want, and the car I want, and the job I want, and the stuff I want, and so on, so on, so on. But you know what? The devil has gotten you into this wonderful little land of everything's fine, but you're a spiritual zero in terms of being any kind of opposition to his purposes. C.S. Lewis, the Oxford scholar who became a Christian, wrote the incredible little book, The Screwtape Letters, if you've never read this. It's a wonderful, insightful little book that just describes how the enemy plays out these things. And he writes in one chapter how it's just part of the plan to make them think, hey, everything's fine, don't bother me, and I won't bother you. Friends, listen, if you're not advancing in the kingdom of God, you're of no threat to the enemy at all, and he'll let you alone. In fact, Matthew four even teaches, he has the, Luke four, that is, he has the power to bless you materially if it'll keep you away from the purposes. And I won't even bring up, except to mention, what about the corporate issues of spiritual warfare? You know, for the first 10 years of our life as a church, we were aware of the enemy, and we did some things, but I was never really all that conscious of being opposed. I mean, we worked through our problems, but friends, the last five years, when we determined that God wanted this church to stay here, to serve this community long-term, to have a citywide vision, to plant churches, to make a difference, I mean, we have had opposition after opposition and warfare after warfare, conflicts, stresses, struggles, why? Because we've begun to make an enormous generational difference as a church. And so my only real concern today is that you not minimize what I'm saying here, that if you're not aware right now that the devil's at work, please listen, you will be aware of it. Look at the top two scriptures on your outline. Look at them, take your outline, look at them. It says very clearly there, as I made mention, that the spirit clearly says that in the latter times, some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. It says in 2 Thessalonians 2, that evil will be on the increase. And I want you to know, if you're not aware of the evil one now, you will become aware of him. And there will come a day when that evil one will personify himself in the person of the antichrist, who will be an embodiment of everything evil, just as Jesus was the embodiment of everything good. So friends, I wanna just be a little sober minded about this because if we're not, we're likely to be deceived and to miss what God has ordained for us. So let's do what the Bible says, unless you think, by the way, this is just something for me just because I've had some tough times. You know, maybe you're just kind of preaching to yourself, Jay. Well, honest confession, I am, but I'm not just preaching to myself. In fact, I said years ago, I would not use this pulpit as a place that preached to you about what God was dealing with me concerning, but rather if my life was in some way helpful to you as an illustration, I do that. I just want you to know, I believe it's time for this church and you as individuals, members of it, to stand and resist the devil. The word to resist is the word, listen, in Greek, antihistamine, that's the little word from which we get antihistamine, which, what does an antihistamine do? It dries up the things, doesn't it? And really, anti means to stand against, rather, and the histamine part is the word to stand. So it's standing against. And I want you to just form a mental image in your mind of how you'd stand against. You know, in 43 minutes, I'm conscious of it, men, the sealer game will start, okay? And those men will stand against one another. They'll take a posture. Can we do the same and take a posture to stand against evil? And let me give you seven things quickly. These first two are ones you probably would not have picked. I didn't until I really did some studying. First one is the posture of repentance. Following Satan's first assault on the Son of God, the temptation in the wilderness, Jesus proclaimed to him, if you read about it in Matthew 4, at the end of that confrontation, he turns to the disciples and he says, repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. What he's saying is, turn from where you have been and look this way because the rule of God, the kingdom of heaven is here, it's at hand. And friends, the first thing we need to understand when the devil attacks us, we need to look at ourselves and see, is there something that I have done that has opened the door to the evil one coming into our circumstance, into our life? Is there sin that I have entered into that has allowed Satan or one of his charges access into my life? And I don't know how many times in my life when trials and adversity and pain come, it has a way of reacquainting me with just how far I've drifted from God. How many of you find that when things are going great in your life, you love the Lord and you listen to praise music, but you don't always have a real keen ear, but when adversity and pain and trials strike your life, suddenly, boy, you start listening. I need you, where are you? Help me. And you think sometimes, I don't know about you, I think what's happening to me right now, this trial I'm going through, this attack I'm in, is punishment from God. Do you ever think that? I deserve it, you think. God saw me do this and now he said, well, if you're gonna do that, then I'm gonna do this. Friends, please understand something. It's never a matter of God trying to get even with you if you sin, God doesn't look for ways to bring some kind of punishment in for that sin. But when you do sin, listen very carefully, what you do is you open the door for demonic power to have entry into your life. Listen to what, again, Dr. Craft says in his book, Defeating Dark Angels. Wallowing in unconfessed sin, for example, sexual sins or misuse of power, is another common unconscious invitation to demons. So is repeatedly giving in, notice, repeatedly giving in to potentially addictive behavior, such as pornography or drugs or lustful thoughts or envy or worry. Now, wait a minute, worry? I mean, I can understand drugs and pornography, but worry? How many of you would never touch pornography or drugs, but you worry your little hearts off? Worry or fear or self-hate. Repeatedly, he says, I find that demonized people are holding on to one or more such weaknesses and refusing to confess and deal with them as sins. Now, listen to this picture. This failure undermines their spiritual defenses, providing what John Wimber, Pastor John Wimber, has pictured in a lecture as a runway with lights showing the way for demons to enter. What a powerful picture that is. I want to just alert us that when you enter into sin, consciously or sometimes even unconsciously, you've made way for the enemy to come and what you need to do to stop that thing is right when God makes you aware of it, just repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. The minute you repent, God says, I'll bring the kingdom. I'll restore my rule. Friends, listen, you don't ever earn your way back out of bad deeds into good ones. The moment you repent, honestly say, God, I am sorry. Forgive me for my sin. The Lord says, by the sacrifice of my son, I declare you clean. It's an incredible thing to me, this forgiveness. And it's amazing to me how quickly God can take my sin choked, stuffed up heart, cold toward God and put it in the Holy Spirit microwave. And just as I bow in repentance and quietness before God, he can turn off the heat and stoke up my heart once again and make me hungry for God. That's the power of repentance. It's something the Lord calls us to. If he brings it to mind, repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. And that postures you then to go on and take a stand. Second thing you need to see is the strength of humility. Turn to the Lord the moment you see this attack forming. And don't do what many of us are prone to do in this society. And that is to say, I'll just stand on my own. I'll get it done. I can handle it. I'm able. And we snicker something like, I'll just take the devil and do it. Friends, listen. Someone asked me the other day, do I think the devil's really powerful? Later on in Revelation, we're gonna read the fact that he brings most of the world into rebellion against God. I think he's very powerful. And sometimes we're not humble enough to turn to the Lord in the midst of a battle and say, God, I need you. I can't stand in this on my own. I need your life and your authority. I don't know, but I'm kind of thick up here sometimes. We were on a family vacation earlier in June and I had a good lesson on what it means to be beyond my realm of authority. In order to save some money and travel, we had flown out west on a standby basis and some other vacations we've driven out west and that was the whole vacation and getting there and getting back. So we flew together, but we went in separate airlines and the way this all worked out. Coming back, Carol and the boys went on one airline that left the city about noon and Amy and I had tickets, standby tickets on a plane that was leaving at one o'clock in a different airline. Well, Carol and the boys got on and they left on schedule. We waited at the ticket counter for our name to be called, kind of anxious about getting home and Amy had some people to see and I had things I wanted to get back to. Well, we were excited. Our name got called. We got on the plane, got all settled down. You know, the things were all cranking up and just before it pushed off, an official from the airline walks in and said, these six passengers get off the plane. Amy Passavant, Jay Passavant. Well, you don't argue with them. You know, it's get off the plane. So we get our stuff. Boy, is that an embarrassing moment. You know, you feel like, can I crawl under the seats to get off, please? Now I get off the plane and I have this thing that's welling up. I mean, well, listen, I'm gonna fix this. My daughter's disappointed. I'm gonna be dead here. If I have to buy a full fare ticket, I'm gonna get my daughter home. Blah, blah, blah. So I go down, marching down. I'm gonna fix this whole problem. And I walk up to the ticket. I said, I want a ticket on the next plane to Pittsburgh. He said, sir, that leaves at 11 p.m. This is one o'clock in the afternoon. 11 p.m.? That means we won't get home till tomorrow. He says, it's the red eye. That's right. I said, well, I don't want a ticket. I don't want a stamp. I'll pay the fare. What is it? He said, sir, it's the next plane out. You see, at that point, I could have been as firm as I wanted. I could have stood as much as I wanted to. It didn't matter. I had to change the entire airline routing schedule. And I had a choice to make. I could simmer and stew in my frustration. And I turned to him and I said, well, guess we're here. And at this point, it's 1.30 in the afternoon. The plane doesn't leave till 11. And you know what happened? When we submitted to that, it all of a sudden became a fun experience. And Amy and I had the best time those next eight hours. I think we spent an entire full fare ticket on dinner and everything else that we did. We just had a great time together. But what I learned was I just couldn't, I couldn't bravado my way through it. I had to accept it. And friends, there are things that happen in our life. We just can't make it through. We have to turn. And as James 4.7 says, if you'll put that up, please, Nancy, submit yourself to the Lord. Humble yourself, then resist the devil and he'll flee from you. That's the parallel passage, jot it down, James 4.7. Now, some of you are watching all this. It's gonna go right through your head. If you don't write these down, it won't help you. And dear one, please, don't tie God's hands. You're receiving the word right now. You should be making an effort to store this up. It makes such a difference when you come under attack. Third thing is the foundation of the word. The only illustration that we need about this is what Jesus said to the enemy when he was standing under direct assault in Matthew chapter four. Satan is looking at Jesus and he's saying, you're not the son of God. If you are, jump down from here. You're not the son of God. Turn these stones into bread, blah, blah, blah. And Jesus looks at him each time and says three words. He says, it is, it is, it is, three times he says it. I want to submit to you if the son of God who had all authority in him could have looked at the devil and said, you know, get away from me, blah, blah, blah. He didn't choose to do that. He looked at Satan and says, it is written. If the son of God used the word of God, how much more do we as simple believers need the word of God to stand against the evil one? We need the word of God to be alive in us. When Satan comes along and begins to give his little words and lies and discourages you and brings temptation, it's not good enough to say, well, I think I'm having a hard time here. I think this is from Satan. You need to be able to turn to the evil one and say with authority, it is written. And the tougher the trial, the more you need to be able to say that. Dodie Osteen is the wife of Houston pastor John Osteen, very well-known man, huge congregation, 8,000 members. Maybe you've seen him on television. 1981, Dodie Osteen, then in, I think she was in her late 40s, early 50s, contracted liver cancer, one of the most deadly forms of cancer. Her son, who was a physician, came and confirmed to his whore the fact that his mom had this disease with no apparent hope for cure. Here's what she writes. Doctors gave her one year to live. In her little book called Healed of Cancer, she says this. The devil bombarded my mind with every kind of fear imaginable, especially when everybody was asleep and I lay awake hurting. Pain, intense, unbearable pain came against my body, most of it demonic, just to try my faith. This went on for weeks and then months. I fought so hard in the middle of the night. This is when the devil's thoughts would play in my mind. Many nights I would lay awake and pray continually and rebuke the spirit of fear. I felt like I had battle fatigue, but I kept on pushing and fighting. In order to keep my mind from drifting to the negative, I would walk around saying with every step, by the stripes of Jesus, I am healed. First Peter 2.24, by the stripes of Jesus, I am healed. I would meditate on scriptures like, it is God who works in you, both the will and the do, his good pleasure, Philippians 2.13. The word of God would always encourage me and make me feel better, but the devil challenged every step of faith I taught. Did you hear that? Each time I quoted scripture, he would say, it hasn't done you one bit of good to confess the word of God, has it? How many of you have heard that same voice saying, he would question every promise of God. I quoted scripture after scripture, daily. I stood in the word of God, and then slowly I became stronger and stronger. Dodie Osteen wrote this little book in 1989, and now 15 years later, 1996, she's still alive and well, by the power of God. Never had chemotherapy, but was healed. And she would stand here and say today, by the power of the word of God, standing against the evil. Dear ones, there's no guarantees that that'll happen, but I can guarantee one thing, if you don't have the word at work in you, you won't stand. And if I can be quite candid with you, one of the concerns I have is that so many of us are so indifferent about putting the word in our heart. The problem is when the devil does attack, we don't know where to turn. Oh gosh, I'm in the middle of a trial. I gotta call Pastor Dave and get a scripture, Pastor Scott or somebody. We should be so familiar with this word that when we come under attack, we know right what we need to say, where we need to turn, right? The word of God, stand against the evil one, and the power and authority of his word. Number four is the power of praise. I would love to spend a whole message on this. And by the way, many of these individual points, we have whole messages on the power of praise. You see, the word of God is the basis of how it is that we praise God. It's our declaration of all that God is and all that he isn't. And when praise is uttered in the middle of an attack of the evil one, you know what I sense that he does? I don't, I just kind of see this. I see Satan putting his hands over his ears like this. I don't want to hear it. I don't want to hear it. Proverbs says that the tongue is like a slashing sword. Some months ago, I was called by a pastor who told me, he said, I was at a meeting where your name was brought up at the meeting and some unkind things were said. I thought you needed to know about it. And when he told me that, he told me that words were spoken about me that were unkind and hurt. Has anyone ever said anything about you that hurt you? How have you found that words can cut? If words can cut in the physical, in the flesh and life of each of us, how much more can words cut in the spirit? And when we lift the words, the name, the power of Jesus Christ, the praise of our almighty God and exalt him, it cuts across the devil. It cuts into his spiritual being. And he flees from it. You want to know, and I believe this, you want to know one reason why it's hard for many of you to get here to worship on time, because the devil knows if he can just keep you away for the first 15 or 20 minutes, that he's already won part of the battle for today. And I want to remind you that next week, we're going to begin differently in the morning. Starting at about 11 o'clock, we're going to start getting ready for 1115 kickoff. Because I believe the more praise that we raise, the more we're going to drive away the evil one from this place. I invite you to be here. Come with us and start to move forward. Praising the name of God, it is a key. It's not just some super, some people say, oh, it's just sort of the, it's the warmup time. Or praise is just sort of some emotionally unstable people getting a little exuberant. It's not, it's what scripture says. In fact, could we just try it? Let's stand up for a moment. Put your Bible on your chair. And for just a moment, let's stand here together and let's lift audible praise to God. And for some of you, this is a new exercise, but just say, let's praise God for just a moment and just see if something doesn't lift off of us. Let's go ahead. Lord, we praise you. We bless you this morning. We exalt you in the sanctuary today. We extol you as righteous, holy, and just. Lord, we magnify your marvelous name today. We give you praise and honor and dominion in this place, God. We thank you and invite you, Lord, by your spirit to rule in our lives. Glorious is your name, Lord. We exalt you in the heavenly realms today. We praise and bless you, our God, our King, and our ruler. Holy is your name. Holy is your name. We praise you, God. We praise you, God. Glorious, Lord. Glorious, Lord. Now, if that's uncomfortable, if that's the first time your son or daughter ever heard you praise, then let's just make a commitment to encourage one another that in the coming weeks and months, this place is gonna be a place we're all gonna learn to grow in the reality of the power of the praise and worship. How many of you are willing to say, I wanna do that? I wanna be part of it? All right, take your seat. Let's finish these up. The power of praise number five, the victory of the cross. The victory of the cross. Paul writes in Colossians 2, having disarmed the powers and authority, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Jesus Christ bore our sin in the cross. Friends, has it ever occurred to you the power of forgiveness? I've talked about sin and Satan earlier on. I don't know what it does to you. If you need a reason to praise, here's one for you. When you're stopped by a traffic officer these days, before he ever gets out of the car, he has a little onboard computer in his vehicle now. He pumps in your license plate number and right on his screen in front of you comes up all the outstanding warrants, all the stuff you've done over the last few years. He knows all that about you. Then he comes and says, hello, how'd you like another one? Now the truth about you and me is this. If God pumped up on his computer every sin in your life in the last week or month, what would it look like? Would there be one full page for you? How many screens would he have to push? But you wanna know the truth? When you're in Christ and you're walking in communion with him, when you've received forgiveness at the cross and walked in daily confession, when the Lord pumps that thing, you know what comes up on the screen? No sin, no record of sin. Carl Adler, no record of sin. Scott McKay, no record of sin. Debbie Marshall, no record of sin because Jesus has wiped it all clean at the cross. I don't understand that. But that same authority that washed away my sin also legally secures my victory over Satan. And I don't have time to develop this at length, but a little marvelous little book called Destined for the Throne written by Paul Billheimer in the latter years of his ministry said this. When the results of Calvary are adequately appraised, it appears for what it is, the triumph of the ages. You see, Satan thought he defeated Christ at Calvary. He thought, I got you now. 1 Corinthians 2 says, had they ever known what they were doing, they never would have crucified him. When Jesus died without failing in the smallest detail, his death resulted not only in defeating Satan's purpose to obtain a claim upon him, it also canceled all of Satan's legal claims upon the earth and the whole human race. We have legal authority on the cross of Christ to stand against the evil one. And so when he assaults you, just say to him, Satan, you are defeated at Calvary. Get away from me. Now, some of you are thinking, well, Jay, if that's true, why is it so hard? Then why does Satan seem to prevail so much? Even when we as Christians pray, we don't always see answers to our prayer in defeating Satan. Only thing I can offer to you is this. Let's picture this music stand as Calvary, 2000 years ago, all right? And then the other music stand, the other end of the platform is Christ's second coming. We're living in this age. The kingdom of God is now, but not yet. We're in this church age or age of the Holy Spirit when salvation is being offered to millions of people in between Christ's first death and his second coming. And so in this gap of time, even though Calvary has defeated the evil one, Satan is still moving, still active. And those who step into his den can be destroyed. But those who stand behind Calvary's cross, Satan cannot touch you. C.S. Lewis in his own masterful way describes Satan as a wild dog on a chain. And he has great big jaws and fierce, ferocious manner about him. But he's on a chain and he can only go as far as God allows him. And friend, if you stay inside, I'm sorry, if you stay outside the perimeter of that chain, Satan cannot have his way with you. The moment you just disregard God's warnings, you disregard God's teaching and walk inside that perimeter, you become, forgive me, dog meat. Stand behind the cross of Calvary. Number six, the blood of Jesus. All I wanna say there, so much could be said. All I wanna say in this service particularly is this. Calvary is that momentary victory. That's when it all was sealed. The blood is the ongoing expression of that authority. And I could say so much there about the power of the blood of Christ. It's always been part of the provision that God has established for his covenant. Even when the children of Israel were held in slavery for 400 years, when God moved to deliver them, that was a picture of slavery and bondage to Satan. What did the Lord say? In order to rescue, he said, put over your doorposts, what? Right, just wash it with the blood of the lamb. And then the angel of death will pass over you and you will be delivered from your bondage. Blood has always been important, very important. And it is, as our next scripture says, the only assurance we have to enter into the presence of God. Hebrews 10, if we could flash that up, please, Nancy. Hebrews 10 says very clearly, therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the most holy place by being good Christians, by what?
