SUMMARY
The teaching opens with worship and moves to biblical foundations for spiritual authority, stressing that true authority is given by God, earned through compassion and character, and aimed at building people up rather than dominating them. Using Paul and Timothy as a model, Dr. Passavant demonstrates how authority involves guidance on conduct, relationships, and personal habits, and warns against pride, rebellion, and misuse of authority. He urges leaders to cultivate humility, submission, mutual accountability, and servant-hearted care as the basis for healthy leadership.

Jesus, all wisdom is yours in glory Jesus, all glory is yours and honor Jesus, all honor all power and authority all power and authority are yours all wisdom and glory and honor we claim you king we worship you, Master Jesus, all power is yours all power and Jesus all power is your Hallelujah. Praise you, Lord Yes, Lord. Praise. Mighty warrior dressed for battle Holy Lord of all is he Commander in chief Bring us to attention Lead us into battle to crush the enemy for he has no authority here in this place he has no authority here for this habitation was fashioned for the Lord's presence no authority here so we get the verse proper, play it and listen to it one time. I don't think we have all the time. Let's start from the beginning. Mighty warrior Mighty warrior Mighty warrior Dressed for battle Holy Lord of all is here Commander in chief Bring us to attention In a center battle to crush the enemy for no authority here in this place he has no authority See him For this habitation was fashion for the Lord's presence no authority here for he has no authority he has no authority here in this place he has no authority here for this habitation was fashioned for the Lord's presence no authority One more time. For he has no authority here in this place he has no authority here for this habitation was fashioned for the Lord's presence no authority here for this habitation for this habitation was fashioned for the Lord's presence no authority here Hallelujah. That's right. Who has authority here? Jesus. Hallelujah. Praise you, Lord. We just take authority over any force that might be even attempting to get in here. In the name of Jesus, Name of Jesus. May you reign here tonight, Lord. Praise you, Lord. Jesus name. Hallelujah. He is Lord of Heaven, Lord of earth, Lord of all. Lord of earth, Lord of all that is to come. He is Lord of Heaven. Lord of earth, Lord of all. Lord of heaven, Lord of earth, Lord of all that is to come he is Lord of Heaven, Lord of Earth, Lord of all. More. Praise the Lord. Now we're either going to go forward tonight or backwards. Amen. Right. Nobody came to sit still or go sideways. We're going to go forward or backward. I believe that, and I'm just committed to us just spending a few minutes here establishing that direction. I think that's where we are right now, is establishing the direction of the Lord. How many of you agree that the Lord wants us to go his way forward? We're not. We don't need to convince God of the direction we're to go. And Gene said this morning to the ladies that we have such a mind to just get the preliminaries over and. Get on with the night, you know, or on with the teaching or whatever. That isn't God's way. We've experienced that just about three weeks ago, you know, the Lord's way was to spend the whole time with him. And if we just had the preliminaries and gotten over with, we would have missed the Lord that night. We don't want to do that. But I believe there was a progression in the song. I don't know if you. You caught it, but we sang about the fact that this song was the Lord's habitation, that the enemy had no authority here. Right as we sang that. And I wasn't real convinced that you believed that in the way you were saying. We're not real familiar with that, I guess, yet, are we? We just need to establish that. And I want us to pray first in twos right now. Lord, would you establish your authority in my heart right now? I know you. If, if anyone else feels that you've had a day that you'd like to just sort of erase parts of it, would you do that? Would you, with your own lips and with another brother or sister, agree that the Lord will take authority over every thought or every obstacle to his fulfilling your blessing tonight? Hallelujah. The Lord God mighty in battle. The Lord is a. The Lord of hosts. The Lord of hosts is his name. The Lord is a warrior. The Lord God mighty in battle. The Lord is a warrior. The Lord of hosts is his name. The Lord is a warrior. The Lord God mighty in battle. The Lord is a warrior. The Lord of hosts once more. The Lord is a warrior. The Lord is a warrior. The Lord God mighty in battle. The Lord is a warrior. The Lord of hosts, his name. Hallelujah. Think of a name, beloved. Think of a name that you can declare to the Lord. The Hebrew names of God. Jehovah, Jireh, Jehovah, Sitkine, Jehovah, Shama, Jehovah, Rophe. Those names that we've studied from time. Think of a name or one of Jesus names and just begin to meditate on that and declare it just to establish that presence here tonight. Thank you, Lord. The Lord is my shepherd tonight. Hallelujah. Someone here either prophesied or shared a couple of weeks ago that maybe as many as three or four weeks ago now that the Lord wasn't going to be sending us necessarily the mighty, strong, powerful, equipped, healed studs of the kingdom right really. But he was going to be sending us the needy. And how many of you find it easy? Really? Everyone. So I have to check myself, Spirit, I'll meet somebody. And I know, oh Lord, there is one person that's going to take six months to get them right with. Fred, Here's the card. You're only three months without me. And I just have. And please, if you only knew how much of a conviction I know, Fred and I, and the elders as well, how much of a conviction we have that without this group of leadership grabbing a hold of the vision to reach out, we just, we're just going to keep on the revolving doors, you know, few in, a few out, a few in, a few out. And one brother said to me last Sunday morning, he said, you know, it would be such a waste of this people to run a revolving door church. And I believe he's right. I might be just a little bit biased, but I think God's given us a tremendous group of people, tremendous in the spirit as well as just being great people. I mean, in the spirit. And we just, you know, we're down to Lord, this is the time. Actually, he's saying to us, church, this is the time. His call to us, are we ready? Are we ready to go on? And I'll tell you, how many of you know, how many of you agree that you sense that the Lord is. We're not just here to maintain a little, as I've said before, lifeboat until the rapid. We're here as a battleship to go out and rescue. That's what we're going to be doing. And anyhow, the Lord's sending in some survivors of the calamity out there every once in a while. But you know, it's so bad in the back of the church right now in a physical, just a simple physical problem that when some people come in as visitors, they can't find their way to the table to find a card. And you know, we would hope that someone would pick up on that and introduce themselves later on and make a follow up call, but we don't do that. It's a handshake and a hallelujah. We're too often doing it anyhow. Come on guys, let's get this under control. Back in the back. Just this last Sunday, somebody, and I don't know, it might have been somebody here, so I might be on someone's feet, but rebuked one of our deacons for asking them to move down because they were blocking the table that visitors were trying to get to, to Sign up. See, it's that kind of a self don't bother me, this is my place kind of attitude that will be so destructive in the end. I mean, that little thing didn't matter. But that kind of an attitude, you know, don't take my parking place, don't sit in my pew. I mean, that's what the church has killed itself with over the years. Where are the people there should be? I'm going to ask tonight and the Lord prompted me as we were praying. I want to ask 30 people to be here to pray at 8:30 on Sunday morning. We have too much social hour time before worship. And that's one reason why the worship teams are up there. Just lord, bring down the glory, but do it in this little span of time. I want 30 people to say, I'll be here at 8:30. No one will have to ask me what to do. I'll just partner with a few people, get in a couple of corners or sit down together. You can sit in threes or fours, start praying, get this place covered. No, just the first. No, absolutely we want to cover. Sure. And Gene has a group of gals, I guess now and they're praying. But. Oh, but this all falls under the category of being sensitive. Sensitive to God's spirit. What does he want to do with people that he sends to us? Well, I just, I affirm Barbara, I appreciate. Barbara has a lot of prophetic ministry and we all sit here and say, well, we know there's Barbara again, right? And yet, listen, Barbara's learning to trust the Lord, right, sister? And she's learning to step up. And she said, she's told me, she says if I'm wrong, you tell me, haven't you? No, I know that. Well, nobody likes me. So I appreciate the fact that, you know, there's sometimes when we're learning to be sensitive to the spirit of God, we're going to miss. There's sometimes there's a time to speak and a time to be quiet and we're learning that. But you know, appreciate that as many said, that was really a real confirmation of what the Lord wanted to do. Now, unlike last time, I'm not just going to conclude here, I'm going to have us just share. We can condense this down quite a bit and I won't do some of the interactional things right off the bat, but rather we're just going to touch on a few points and then I'll have you share. We have been talking about relationships. Now we missed last week because of Patrick Johnson, how many of you heard him and were encouraged by what you heard? It was an encouraging time. Encouraging in the sense of we're in the battle. How many of you felt a little bit overwhelmed? How many of you are getting a passport? He did. He had a gift, didn't he? Of taking a really difficult looking situation and saying, we're winning, right? All 4% of us. But I appreciate that. But we're talking about spiritual authority. And I, you know, I have to say to you, this is a difficult subject because it's, it's so easy to keep this in the realm of out there in the ethereal, really. I feel like that could be easily done. And we could talk about Jesus authority and we could talk about the authority of the apostles, but we won't talk about authority as it relates to us tonight. I think the Spirit of the Lord has prepared us that we're going to talk about how spiritual authority works itself out in the nitty gritties of do this, don't do that. Are you ready for that tonight? And I know I'm kind of opening us up here for a real hack job in the Spirit. We can get into some heated times, so I'm ready for that. But I believe that some of you are asking questions about spiritual authority, like what does that mean for my home group or what does that mean for my ministry? If I'm a children's ministry leader or if I'm in responsibility of some other sort or just in a personal relationship, what does it mean? How does it operate? Now let me review because it's been a couple weeks. Spiritual authority. Here's a review definition or so. Maybe a bit of a. Might be fresh for some of you. The right given by God to men and women. The right given by God to men and women. To build, adjust and influence the lives of others. The right given by God to men and women to build, adjust and influence the lives of others. Let's just. This is man to man authority. We talked about the nature of spiritual authority, all coming from God. It was given by God. Authority, we said, is earned, it's not imposed. No one can ever demand that you yield their spiritual authority. They have to earn it. Or that you have to acknowledge it's been given to him by God. Okay? And it's born, we said, out of compassion, not domination. True spiritual authority in a life is seen when you desire the best for the person that you're relating to, when you want them to succeed, when you want them to be all that God wants them to be. That's when you really can exercise spiritual authority. We're going to see tonight here just briefly in the scriptures how that kind of relationship existed between Paul and Timothy and what just a powerful and significant relationship. Now another thing that was prophesied tonight, or at least prayed, was that we have teachable spirits. And let me say that without a teachable spirit, there is no opening for authority to function. If you are not open in your spirit, if you are not teachable, if you are not willing to be told where you need to be adjusted, influenced or built, then you are not submitted to spiritual authority and no one can help you. God has his ways, doesn't he? He has his ways of bringing us to a point where we have to confront the fact that we are goofing up pretty badly and we're going to stall out. You want to know why some people stall out in their Christian life? Because they get to a point where they're no longer teachable. I have to say to you, oh, there's such a beauty about some babies in Jesus who are so teachable. You know, they just look. They're just looking and drinking everywhere they go. Well, we lose that once we get the doctrines down and we get the, the buzzwords down and we get a little hardened and I heard that before kind of mentality. I'll tell you what, ask God to give you a teachable spirit. Now let's look at Paul and Timothy's relationship. You might need another one. I'll just do this very quickly so you can relate. And we have a couple questions for you to relate this to with another couple of folks. See in Nitty Gritty Practical. I don't like this. It's too close. Terms how Paul and Timothy related in a relationship of spiritual authority. A couple terms of preface. A couple things. Number one, Paul's spiritual authority over Timothy was based on his affection. My beloved child, he says in second Timothy 1:2. My beloved child, the second strongest expression of affinity. I love you, my beloved Timothy, my child in the Spirit or 2nd Timothy 1:4. I long to see you that my joy might be complete. Do you feel that way about the people that God's given you to relate to? Can you not wait to see your home group? I remember when we started this little band of people. Do you remember this Grant? Some years ago we couldn't wait, really. I mean, we just couldn't wait to get together again to see what God was going to do with us. Remember that, Doug? I mean, we just made the time and we just dug around and we'd spend four or five hours together and go out yawning with a grin on our face. You ought to try that sometime. Try yawning with a grin on your face. We just loved being together. We enjoyed it so much. Philippians 2. I have no one like Timothy, so there was a. Who genuinely is concerned for your welfare. There's something about the affection upon him, and we've heard sermons about it. It's terrific. He wanted the best. And sometimes I'm sure Timothy didn't think so. How many of you saw the Karate Kid? I thought so. I thought so. No, it's not a game, it's a movie. Ken. The Karate Kid. The Karate Kid was a story about a young boy who was getting beat up on by these hooligans in his school who all knew some form of karate or whatever. And he was redeemed and cleaned off and saved from destruction by this elderly. Where was he from? Japan. He's from Japan. Yeah. And he taught this young boy karate. And. But it started out. Here's the. It started out by him saying, you come over and I'll teach you karate. And it's sort of that by. He showed him his house and he gave him two big waxing mitts, you know, a Fluffy, like a wool mitt for rubbing out a car fleece kind of thing. Put one in each hand and he gave him. He had six or eight cars lined up. Put a little wax on here and a little wax on here. So, you know. So it had him do that all night long. The next day he showed up again and he had two paintbrushes and he had this fence. And, you know, they, of course, panned this big monster fence. And he. So he's painting this way all day long. This way, this way. And then he had him the next day coming out, sanding off the walkway on this beautiful Japanese garden with this elaborate walkway. And he's going like this. And of course, all along he's teaching him how to, you know, move his hand. But the kid doesn't know it. After three or four days, he thinks, this guy's using me. You know, what does he care, right? And he's just about to walk out. It's a neat illustration, I think, sometimes when we don't realize that someone has our best interest at heart. I remember when this kid used to follow me on my college campus to disciple me. I knew this kid was really. He wanted me for his scalp belt or something, right? And I used to hide from him, and he come and knock on My dormitory door I'll never forget. And I used to hide in the closet almost. Don't bother. But he had my best interest, and we're dear friends now. He's a pastor out in Denver. So we may not know it when someone really is caring for us because they come and share a word with us that maybe we feel is harsh. And your people may not know it when you go to them with some necessary discipline, perhaps, or some sort of suggestion for how they might adjust their life. Adjustments can be painful. But Paul had Timothy's best interest in mind. Now, all true submission is mutual submission. So understand that you can't go to someone and just keep adjusting and influencing and correcting. You have to be willing to hear it back. And that sometimes gets to be a little bit tough. Ephesians 5:21. It's got to be voluntarily given and voluntarily received. You just simply don't force it on anybody, do you? Now, in the body of Christ, let me say that we are commanded to submit ourselves to the spiritual authority of our leadership. That's why, as hard as this is for we American independent Christians, it's a vital part of being a church. What separates us from a group or a club? What is it? Well, it's the Holy Spirit who baptizes into one body, but it's also the government that God's given us as a church. Now, we've already confessed up here that we've been kind of unclear about the definitions of our government, haven't we? And we're trying to bring that into order, and that's not been easy. But I think it's so important that we see that this is what sets us apart. Hebrews 13:17. Jot that down. Submit to your leadership. What does that mean? Do I blindly do what they say and if they tell me to walk off the end of a cliff? No, that's not what it means at all. But it means that you cherish and respect and honor the things that the leadership shares. And if you disagree that you disagree in love, how many know the difference between disagreeing defiance and disagreeing in love? If you disagree in love, what do you do? What's the difference? Somebody give me a couple of illustrations. What's the difference. If you disagree with the leadership in love or another individual? What's the difference between that and just in defiance? Okay, the way you do it. That's right. You don't withdraw your support and say, I'll take my ball and go home. That's right. You don't go around the Corner and say, I don't agree with Jay. I don't like what he said. There can be a difference, but there's no division. There's no split that results. How about, it's appealing. There's an appeal to that. Would you consider this, brother? You know, not. I don't believe that, you know, have you considered this? I love it when someone comes and says no. They don't have to put all the disclaimers on there. Well, I don't know if I'm hearing from God. They just say, brother, would you consider this viewpoint? Boy, that's a mature person saying, this may not be right or it may be right. I feel it is, of course. Would you consider, and I submit it to you now, God's called us to be that way. Paul said in Acts 17:21 that those in Berea were more noble than the believers in Thessalonica because they cherished the word, they received it. The Bible says they submitted to it. So we need to learn to do that. Now, I want you to go in about as seven or eight minutes span here, and I want you to see some ways in which Paul exercised authority over Timothy's life. Get ready. Take your Bibles. I want you to see it. So you don't. Well, I'll tell you what, it might be more important to you to write it down than to see it. So Paul is going to try to follow along as well. Here they are. We're going to turn to the book of Timothy. First Timothy, chapter one. Here we go. Here's some specific ways that Paul related to Timothy. Areas of adjustment, building and influence. First Timothy, chapter one, verse three. As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia. Remain at Ephesus. Remain at Ephesus. Okay, well, that's the general now. Put it under the liner there, number one. Okay. Remain in Ephesus. One three. Paul is saying what? Stay put, Charlie. He was influencing Timothy at a point of decision about where he was to be. Now just Skip over to 3:15. Paul says to Timothy, if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God. I'm sorry, let me read the whole preceding sentence. I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these instructions to you so that if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God. The second way Paul influenced Timothy was he told him how to conduct the church. Here's Timothy, the pastor at Ephesus, most likely mighty church of God. And Paul saying, here's how you run Your church, Timothy. Wow, that's pretty heavy, isn't it? Not only did he tell him the rules of conduct, and that's where he was talking about eldership and all that kind of thing. That's number two, Paul. Number three, he told him what to teach. Look in four, six, if you put the these instructions before the brethren, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus. Verse 11. Command and teach these things. And so he goes on and says, here's what you're supposed to teach your church and your people. Look at verse seven. He tells them what to watch out for. Watch out for those godless and silly myths and train yourself in godliness. He's telling them, do this and don't do that. I see verse 8 as being a verse of priorities. For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way. Number four, he's telling him, Here's some of your priorities. Don't get caught up in this, but do that. Do you see what I'm saying? Beloved, deceitful. He's not just talking. Be a gentle, humble servant. He's telling him some do's and don'ts, some real practical things. All right? Now look at 11 through 16. And he really spells out what his ministry is to be all about. No one despise your youth, but be to the believers an example. Verse 11. 13. Rather, attend to the public reading scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect the gift you have which was given you by prophetic utterance. Practice these duties, devote yourself to them so that all may see your progress. Take heed to yourself and your teaching. To me, it's a very clear admonition. This is number five. That's number five. How to conduct his ministry. Now a couple more. Look at five. One here, he gives them specific instructions on how to relate. Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as you would a father. Have you ever talked to one of the people that you're relating to about the way they treat somebody else? That's a tough one. It shouldn't be, but it is. Have you ever been able to say to someone, you know, brother, it would really be good if you could be more sensitive to this sister because it crushes her when he used to talk like that. You ever done that? Ever been willing to say some hard words to somebody, Treat the younger men like brothers and so on? So it gives some guidelines for relationships. Over in verse 17 of chapter 17, he tells them how to treat the rich. We don't have any problem with that. All right. Then in chapter five, verses nine and following, he tells them how to administrate the church, let the widow be enrolled. And so he's real specific. He said, these are instructions for you on how to live, how to run the church that you are pastoring. Look at verse 21 here. He says something really in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the elect, I charge you, keep these rules without favor, doing nothing for impartiality. And so Paul says to Timothy, I'm telling you, keep these rules. Do you see what he's saying here? Now get the force of this. He's saying, do it this way. Do it this way. We are afraid to tell people. Do it this way. And we're afraid to receive that from someone else. Do it this way. Then he gets into his drinking habits. Look at verse 23. Oh, I left you behind. No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments. Okay, these are all under, let's say, number six. Why don't you put them in there? Specific guidelines. And relationship relationships. All right, then number seven. His physical. Give him some physical direction, personal habits. Right? Drink a little wine. Physical direction, personal habits. And let me just conclude with a few blind spots that probably Timothy wasn't sure how to handle. Look over in second edition, chapter one, second Timothy, chapter one. Look at this. Verse 6. Hence, I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, love and self control. What was he saying to Timothy? Huh? What is he saying? Don't be shy. Don't hold back. You get the distinct impression that Timothy was real timid and Paul was exhorting, don't hold back. God's given you the gift. Have you ever helped somebody to get over their personality hangups? Church. Have you ever helped a shy person come out or an overbearing person to back off a little bit? Have you? That's what we're talking about, personality adjustments. Okay, I'm losing the weary ones, so I'm going to stop here in just a second. Look at second Timothy four, six. He's telling him, watch how you live your life. Don't get involved in civilian pursuits. Don't get complicated with it. Have you ever had the courage to tell somebody, to share with them that if their life is to really be under the lordship of Jesus, they need to give up something? Could you Tell someone that's come down to wholeheartedly following the Lord or lifting weights for the rest of their life. How many of you know people who have idols like that that someone really needs to come and address? But you can't do it because this whole understanding of spiritual authority is lacking. And we haven't really developed it. We haven't really come to the point of learning how to do it. Finally, look what he says. Then we can feedback and you can ask questions. He says, chapter four, do your best to come to me soon. He goes on and describes some things he wants to do, people to visit and say hello to. Okay. Verse 21, second Timothy 2, 4. Do your best to come before winter. He says, how about helping me by doing this? Come to me, Bring the parchments. Do you have a relationship with your people that you can say, it would really help me if you would do this, or do you feel like that would be imposing? Paul was clear. I need this help. Would you help me? Now there's whatever that is. Eight, nine, ten different things, maybe more. Let's talk a little bit about that, and then we'll break into a couple of groups, or groups of a couple, rather. And then we'll conclude for tonight. Let's talk about this a little bit. Let's talk about getting specific. Let's talk about how you relate to people in matters of decision making, in matters of personal concern and interest. Let's talk for a few minutes. Feedback, raise your questions. Let's help each other understand how we live this out. Okay. Paul, first off, the whole concept of spirituality in somebody else's life. Sure. Yeah. I'd say, how would you know that? How would you know if that purity is in there? I'd have to relate to my wife again, if my best interest for her. Okay. Yes. All right. And that another way I would suggest that maybe is somewhat similar to that, an objective way is are you dealing with or someone dealing with you in that same way? See, I feel like in order to have a measure of authority in someone's life, you need to be under authority. That's a very important part of this concept. We're not sending out little generals to tell people what to do. We're a network that God's created. We're a body, and we're linked together and all of us work together. So one way to ensure that your heart's pure is by checking it. These are some things that God seems to be leading me to do. What do you think about that? A little bit about abuses, you know, Anything like spiritual authority. Just like the Holy Spirit spiritual gift. What does that do? What does that. How do you respond to those abuses? How have you dealt with those abuses? How we respond as a people spiritual gifts to refuse the spiritual gifts in a Christian church. So you want them to respond? Yeah, it's final. Well, I think that this is where the discernment has to come in when people try to see if they be of God. You're here a damaged victim, a wounded lamb from another fold and you know, beloved, we just can't, we can't indulge ourselves and I mean we need to heal up and take the time to do that. But we're not talking here again, we're not talking here about dictation. We're not talking about influence. That's not welcome. We're talking about learning how to flow under that and see it as God's gift. Those who would help to influence and shape. Before about potential to a sword against the earned not at Paul was a spiritual father to Timothy in the profoundest sense. And there would be no question in Timothy's mind that if Paul had been loved for the sake of. There's a beauty to that. The idea of exercising the kind of authority that we see that Paul exercising here isn't going to be something that suddenly you can all say, oh well that's how we're supposed to do it in our home group. We're supposed to tell them how to. Do this and what to do in front. Of. But I believe that this whole the two way street of the relationship has to be a growing thing. And as trust develops on both ways of the street, then these things come into bloom. Sure, no question about that. All right, who else? When we are learning how to come into spiritual authority, I don't think that we ever can be dogmatic. I think Timothy received Paul's exhortations because Timothy absolutely and profoundly, to use Grant's word, trusted Paul. We may not have that level of trust in some of our relationships. I'm making a plea tonight for you to learn a little bit of to have the courage to go to someone and say this part of your life needs to be addressed because people are turning around and walking out the door when things get tough and nobody is challenging them and saying brother, come to grand grips with this in your life and we lose them in the name of love. And I just think God's fed up with that. That's not his way. He's got to make the choice. But it's a lot easier if now you determine, hey, I'm committed there. I'm submitted there. And if my leadership is saying this is what we need to do and before God, I'm going to do. And if I don't agree with it, I'll bring it before them. And unless God specifically checks me, I think so much is decided by opinion. I don't feel the same way. I've heard that a lot of times. I don't feel the same way. You do. That's the same thing that a non Christian says when you share the gospel with them. And who is the authority in that case? Self. I'm my authority. That's how I read it. That's what I want to do.
